Trip Update

I just spoke with Chris. He's on his way home from Mississippi. The rest of the team is still in Hattiesburg for a few more days.

Apparently the semi truck broke down in Alabama. First it blew a tire and then it had mechanical trouble. The team had to stay overnight in Alabama but was spared from nasty weather down the road where several tornados touched down that evening.

The supplies and the volunteers arrived in Hattiesburg a day late but went right to work. Much of the food that was donated was sent further south to Gulf Port which was particularly hard hit by Katrina.

That's all I've got. Hopefully Chris and some of the other team members will log in when they get back and share their experiences.

T-Shirts for team members

Hello all! We have ordered T-shirts for everyone on the team to wear while on the trip. Please send me your T-shirt sizes as soon as possible. I will need to get the sizes in by 12 noon this Monday, Sept. 19th to be able to get them back in time. The shirts are 50-50 blend and will not shrink when washed. The cost is $6.50 per shirt. Please turn this in to your church Sunday, Sept. 18th. Email your sizes to Brink96@webkorner.com. If you would like more than one shirt please put this in your email also. Thanks so much! What do I need to take?

As a relief team member, here are the things that you need to take:

Bible
Personal items (Toiletries)
Towels, Wash cloths
Any medications that you may need
Sleeping bag (cot, blow-up mattress)
Proper work clothes (jeans, boots, etc.)
Snacks that you like
Flashlights
Extra shoes
Make sure that your shots are up to date

Here are the supplies that we are hoping to be available to provide for the team (any donations would be greatly appreciated):

Chain saws, axes, saws
Goves, ear plugs, safety glasses
Well stocked first aid kits
Tool Belts (hammers and tape measures)
Skill saws
Buckets for cleaning
Rubber gloves
Cleaning supplies (Clorox, Pinesol, etc.)
Bottled water, sodas
Coolers
Food for the group

What will we be doing?

The needs in the Hattiesburg area changing day to day. The most important thing is to be flexible. They are asking for help in the following areas:

Tree cutting and removal
Boxing and distributing food
Cleaning up houses
Patching roofs
Assisting the elderly with insurance (FEMA forms)
Cooking for volunteers
Transporting supplies
Ministering to hurting people
