The "Little House" Study Group

Miami Baptist

My wife is a huge "Little House on the Prairie" fan and we recently bought 7 seasons of Little House on DVD. I've been watching these with her and both of my kids have just fallen in love with the show.

As I've been watching I've noticed how much scripture and Christian morality plays into almost every episode. I was thinking it would be neat have a weekly small group at someone's house. We could start at Season 1 Episode 1 and watch one episode a week. We could have some finger foods while were watching it and when it was over we could have a short devotional time by looking scriptures that were related to the show and discussing similar trails and situations in our own lives.

There are so many lessons on integrity and parenting to be learned from that show and it still has a lot of fans. I just thought it would be a very unique weekly small group study. So if you think it's a good idea or a bad idea post here and we'll see where it goes.

Great idea Greg! If not at someones house maybe a new Sunday School class or small group on Sunday night.

I don't know about the new Sunday School Class idea. Do you think I'd get away with taking some people out of their normal classes to watch TV? ;)

I tend to think that a living room at someone's house with some finger foods is the perfect environment for this type of group. I have a big enough TV but my living room will only seat 5 or 6 people. I think it would be good to let parents bring thier kids too. The kids could run in and out of watching the show or playing in another room. You know, just like any other time a family sits down to watch TV. It's just that the circle is expanding to take in a couple more families and after that time of fellowship there's a good discussion about parenting and faith and community that I think would naturally flow from the storyline of the program.

Anyway, that's how I envision it.

I think you are right. It would have to be something that would attract the "unchurched" or at least Little House fans. Taking another night out of an already busy schedule may be the only thing you have to contend with. I have made it a matter of prayer. See if anyone bites on the idea.
